Identity

Tue May 19, 2009, 7:21 PM
Uploaded the two assessed photographs for my Digital photography project, "You are here, I am there" about the self and identity, including another photograph which I considered for the final presentation but chose not to use.

With these shots, I was trying to express my cultural identity (or in relation to these photographs, the model who is Thai but with Chinese heritage) as displaced in the city of Sydney in which I have lived in for the last five years. I find that within my living environment, the only connection there is to my Chinese heritage (or anyone's, given they have that background) is the Chinatown district of the city. That area, to me, simply emanates with things I find familiar, without having the sense of complete connection.

(Hopefully that makes some sense. Art is always so hard to describe)

Currently working on my final analogue and digital projects, which are both self-directed. Hoping to keep exploring the concept of the disconnection and lack of identity in the city of Sydney. Thinking of Philip-Lorca diCorcia's work, fused with the cultural identification in Tracey Moffatt's work...

Till then, stay cool.

Recent work

Sat May 9, 2009, 7:08 AM
Realised I haven't uploaded any of my recent projects and uni work, so I've put up my two badly scanned contact sheets of the negatives I shot for my first analogue photography project about Defining Place.

Also, my final image for a flash lighting project for my studio lighting course. Kudos to my model Shaza of [link]

Sorry there hasn't been much of an update. Uni tends to suck the inspiration right out of me.

Documentary photography

Sat Mar 21, 2009, 7:52 PM
I've uploaded my new photographs from London, which I took during my trip in February. I had tried the documentary-style approach by thinking less about form, and more about function. By thinking about time and place, and how my photographs could act as a reflection on that.

Less aesthetics, more information. More reflection.

Will be uploading a lot more photographs from my day trip to Eastbourne and more from the Borough Market in London.

Mardi Gras update

Thu Mar 12, 2009, 2:18 AM
Uploaded new photographs. Two were proper portrait shots of my good friend Genesis M, and the rest were spontaneously shot at the Mardi Gras parade.

I'd taken over 500 photographs, and these are some of my favourites.

Feedback would be nice, thanks!

Otherwise, 2nd Year has begun. I'm taking an Intro to Film and Intro to Studio Lighting this semester, which should prove to be very interesting. Especially the lighting course, it'll give me some scope into studio equipment etc. Also, learning about medium format cameras this semester. They're amazing machines. Really looking forward to tackling this semester.

Massive gallery update!

Sun Jan 18, 2009, 9:18 AM
I've uploaded 7 new black/white photographs from my day at my cousin's place. I'd used his wonderful 18-200mm EF lens to shoot these photographs - so my thanks to him.

Do check these out, they're worth the look. This is a set I'm very, very pleased with.

My creative juices are back!
